(Maths + English) + Def Jux = The motherfuckin’win!

January 19, 2008

Stolen from Pitchfork for further awareness.

We haven’t exactly been shy in expressing our fondness for Dizzee Rascal‘s Maths + English album. We gave the disc our recommendation when we reviewed it back in June, and it even landed at #49 on our list of our favorite albums of last year (single “Pussyole” made it onto our top songs list at #28) But when XL originally released the album, it wasn’t given a physical release in the U.S., just a digital one. It was unfortunate; as our reviewer Nate Patrin wrote, “Dizzee’s best prospects for an expanded fanbase may well be across the pond.”

Happily, Maths + English is getting another chance, thanks to the good folks at Def Jux. The indie rap powerhouse will issue the album on CD for the first time in the States April 29. (It will also re-release it digitally, as it is no longer available as a download here.)

The Def Jux version will feature new studio tracks “G.H.E.T.T.O.” and “Driving” as well as a remix of the UGK-assisted “Where’s Da G’s” by Def Jux label head El-P. All told, it sounds like it was worth the wait.

In other Dizzee news, he’s got those dates we told you about recently.

The Sun vs. The Human vs. Nature. Where’s the news on this?

January 19, 2008

If these studies (in the first video – the part with Africa is crucial on a socioeconomic front) are true (and they seem to stand up considering the people in the videos are pretty reputable figures on the subject………then where is the coverage?  I’m not saying this is the absolute truth at all.  But I watched An Inconvenient Truth a couple times before, and it made sense to a degree….but it seemed to be missing some information, or just missing a kicker of sorts.

While I do believe that we are definitely NOT helping things with our CO2 emissions and the various pollutions we create….you have to wonder why these Sun reports are never broadcast…..
Why are we constantly being told that WE alone are killing the earth and warming it up…and causing the bad weather….when in actuality, while we might be helping it a bit, it’s actually the Sun that is the true driver?

Not only that – in a video (the second video….slightly questionable, but I used it because of the solar implications it used – not the human CO2 stuff) made this year, scientists are talking about an ice age…….which coincidentally, we are actually “due” for.  That supposedly ‘unreasonable’The Day After Tomorrow movie isn’t so stupid after all.  And again….why is this never discussed in the mainstream?  Why is human caused CO2 being force fed down our throats when there isn’t even a scientific consensus on that particular theory?

These videos, when given further thought, really lend to the need of more extensive information on how climate has (and will) affect our society – where is the report/study on this?  If you consider all of the events of our history – I have a feeling climate has had a LARGE (though somewhat indirect) influence on everything we know.  This can’t be ignored.

I told you not go get that Prius just yet……

As Mr. Bertrand Russell says:

If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way, and much of what is currently believed in international affairs is no better than myth.”

You see this face – it means I’m not bullshittin’.

Article here.

This man says that if need be…..he’ll need to drop a few things on your head – even if he’s not totally sure if you mean to do harm to his country.  Where/what are we heading to?  Why exactly does Russia need to preemptively bomb others with nuclear weapons?    I’m not saying we are fixing to be microwaved into a “Hot” War……but what is exactly ticking Russia off?  (….or perhaps….why are they playing themselves up as a big bad monster?)
