Palindromes – somewhat cohesive thoughts on the election, VP nominations, and kayfabe

August 30, 2008

No, it is opposition – that people speak of with McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin, hot hockey mom and Governor of Alaska.  Apparantly, people in on the Republican side loves the selection, while the Democrats were just happy to make sure they didn’t pick someone to kill Obama’s shine.

Now, they both have heavy positives and negatives.  For one, Biden runs off at the mouth – something he can’t just ‘do.’  Palin is basically the least experienced VP candidate in recent memory – to say that she is a fresh face, is a vast magnanomous understatement.  Biden obviously is going to be more equipped to handle a sudden ascension to Presidency, but Palin will prove to be feisty and very competitive.  You have to wonder if being a mother is really going to be enough, because that seems to be her main positive at this point.

Top step – Sara(h)’s pet spot – My brother and some other Republicans are basically rejoicing at Palin’s selection, but I’m not so sure if it’s wishful thinking.  There is literally nothing that jumps out and says she can actually do the job.  Does she scare Democrats?  I suppose so, but obviously there really hasn’t been anything saying they are – but you HAVE to worry.  I mean it’s like two rivals teams in race for the pennant, and Team A gets a solid 30 homer guy….and then Team B gets young guy to add some speed to the team.  It’s hard to say who’s coming out on top.

Sad? I’m Midas! – I think Obama is going to have this philosophy.  This is where the Republicans disappoint me.  Do you really think Obama’s camp didn’t think a wild card just might be out there somewhere in continental North America?  People seem to believe that the Red Tide will roll this into a nice RNC, and push along side, or ahead of the Obama/Biden ticket.  And this may, in fact, be the case.

At the end of the day – they’re will be some debating, there will be some posturing, there will be some calling out of names – usual stuff.  It’s the debating that I’m interesting in watch, as far as a television show goes.  It will be good stuff.

Are we not, Rae, near to new era?

Are we?  A woman as a VP…..potentially a black man as a president.

To be quite honest – everyone knows I’m (Kahron) apolitical.  I view this as a spectacle of mass proportions, maiming the population’s senses, common or otherwise, to death.  As a liberal personality, my sensibilites would lead me to believe Obama as the natural pick.  But I actually trust neither candidate, because quite honestly, I don’t trust the system in which we elect these people.  I don’t NOT care – I just don’t look at one guy or the other and see someone who actually cares.

Now, I do like a good mystery.  I like that the producers of the show are also acting in the program.  I like to look and ask everyone I see about how they feel about the show….and who they think is going to win.

I must assert here that I’m not a conspiracy theorist.  I truly believe that the Democrats and Republicans sing the same song, from opposite sides of the field.  They are one team, that plays each other in front of the world.

That isn’t a conspiracy – that is merely opinion.  I just happen to think Barack and John probably text each other, give each tips on things.  I think they play poker online with each other every other Saturday……seriously.  I really don’t think there is the division you see on television.

In pro wrestling, there is something called kayfabe – it’s basically the somewhat, not well hidden, fake “real” world in which wrestlers play out their televised lives.  For you, they are fighting for their lives and getting beat up backstage with folding stairs.  They are throwing each other from the top rope and through tables.  But in the real reality, they are pushing the writers’stories along.  They are positioning their punishing careers into large six-figure salaries bybecoming world champions, faces of their industry..action figures….cereal boxes…etc.

And their audience plays on their every word and action.  They know it’s not real, but they spend money to buy per per views….memorabilia….and they are rabid.  You have to pay attention to them live.  It’s an interesting conundrum:  It’s fake, but you make it real in your mind.

Watching they end of the Democratic National Convention gave me the feeling of Obama being crowned Intercontinental Champion – and the fans screamed…and yelled…..and cried, all with a familiar sense of euphoria that I’ve see before.

…I was 10…….it was Wrestlemania VI…..the Hulkster versus the Ultimate Warrior….the Warrior gorilla presses Hogan for the win…1…2….3.  The Skydome goes wild….

After Obama gave that speech – which is one, if not the very best speech at a convention – I just watched the crowd.  I looked for the Biden, then the wives come out.  They really believed it.  They, and Democrats at home, believed it, just like Republicans will later on.  They stopped being analysts and party boosters and lobbyists.  They became the inevitable – they became fans.

What an entertaining show!  Oh, the drama…the climax…the dénouement.

As a hopeful director, I feel a sense of satisfaction at the end of it all and I hope to experience it once again.

…..they fucking cried.  Brilliant.

I’ve got all the news channels, and they are lined up back to back.  Who needs Godard or Scorcese or Spielberg movies?

Where’s Soledad O’Brien?  I need the latest on Barack’s bowel movements.  I bet he eats a lot of fiber.
